I am guessing that these softwares are not looking at my actual hardware, they are just looking at the software drivers that are installed on my machine and comparing those to some set of drivers available for download.Ĭliffs: HP support assistant didn't find anything (on a scale of 1-10 how competent is this tool?). And so that's why these softwares are not detecting that there is a more recent version.

The wrong driver is somehow installed, and that driver happens to be the most up to date version (but it's not made for my hardware, it's made for some other hardware). I am not really qualified to comment here and so this is just pure speculation. According to HP's website, my processor is Intel Core i3 4130. But, when I look at the download page of the driver, I actually don't see my processor on that list.

Should I manually uninstall the driver that I have now and then install the one that I found with the release date of 6/17/16? I found this driver by searching for the graphics card that I see in device manager. But, once you click on that I got sucked in by this "Intel Driver Update Utility." When I ran that, it said no updates found, just like Windows was saying. It seems that the top one on this list would apply. Seems there are some more recent drivers released. Next, I went on the web and searched specifically for the drivers. It's strange that on the HP product specifications page it says that "this motherboard supports processors with the following integrated graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4400 (GT2) and Intel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2)." I guess HP was being lazy and just copying and pasting the info instead of stating the info for this specific system Here is the spec page for this computer: By the way, the motherboard seems to have HD Graphics 4000 as the onboard video (based on what it says in device manager).

But, it didn't find any updated drivers (last update I can see was about a year ago, which is actually a little strange because I did a clean install of my operating system more recently than that). I then went to Windows 10 device manager and clicked properties of the video card, and then had Windows search for the drivers. That just came up with some annoying messages such as "create your system recovery" and "windows firewall is not enabled." I think I installed a couple of things, too, such as "HP Network Check for Internet Explorer." But, nothing video driver related. Just didn't have a chance to come back here and update.
